Him Shikar Carène Ustinov School
In cooperation with the Swiss Carène Foundation, the Peter Ustinov Foundation rebuilt the school in Nele, Nepal, as it was completely destroyed in the devastating earthquake of 2014. The village Nele is located about 60 km from the capital Kathmandu and has 5,000 inhabitants, 600 of whom are school-age children. Until the reconstruction of the school, the children had to be taught in emergency tents. The new school can handle around 200 students. The traditional construction with clay, stone and wood was reinforced under the supervision of Swiss engineers with earthquake-resistant supports. In autumn 2017, the new "Him Shikar Carène Ustinov" school was completed. An extension for even more students is already planned.
