Traditional Art School, Bhutan

At the same time as the Sir Peter Ustinov Foundation was founded, in 1999 the only school for traditional Bhutanese art was created by Dasho Choki Dorji. The Choki Traditional Art School (CTAS) offers disadvantaged young people of whom many were unable to attend a primary school the opportunity to study for several years traditional art and thus opens up for them professional prospects. Based on their abilities and special interests, the students can here learn the craft of wood carving, embroidery, tailoring and weaving.

The school offers free lessons, accommodation and meals. Currently 145 pupils (96 boys and 49 girls) are looked after by 18 employees.
